Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass

On Sunday Tiger Woods won his second Players Championship, lifting the trophy at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course At TPC Sawgrass, one of two world-class golfing facilities at TPC Sawgrass. This week’s course review takes golf fans on a whirlwind tour of this iconic course.

THE PLAYERS Stadium Course was designed by Pete Dye and first opened to the public in 1982. For over thirty years, this course has gained popularity with pros and amateurs alike and is considered to be one of the most beautiful and well-rounded golfing facilities in North America. In 2006 a complete re-surfacing of the course took place and with 2.6 million feet of fresh grass, the course is ready for several more decades of golfing pleasure.

Golf fans will probably be familiar with the Stadium Course’s most famous hole, the par-three 17th, which features an island green surrounded by water on all sides. Though this hole may seem daunting, the course offers some opportunities for low-scoring weekend golfers to make par at this famously challenging course which is open to the public.

Players who opt to play the Stadium Course instead of the Dye’s Valley Course At TPC Sawgrass will be in for a challenging 18 holes. A precise short game is needed to negotiate the greens, which are sometimes notoriously slippery, while accurate drives are the order of the day.

Players who are confident in their skill on the course may still want to take a conservative approach at the Stadium Course to avoid high scores – the scenic setting and immaculate course condition will certainly make the round worthwhile even if birdies are hard to come by. The 17th hole requires a very accurate drive to clear the water without overshooting the pin, but players who manage to land near the cup may even stand a chance to make par or birdie at one of the world’s toughest golf holes.

Guests at the TPC Sawgrass resort may book tee times along with their accommodation – see the resort’s website for more details.
