The Piretti Forza by Rainmaker

If you have not noticed Henrik Stensen’s weapon of choice over the past few years – you missing out. Piretti Putter’s was the brand that helped him win a record FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai in that stellar 2013 season, coincidently the first player ever to win both titles in the same year. Established in 2008 Piretti has very quickly become a major player in the world of fine milled putters.

Choosing your “perfect” putter, is an important and personal choice. Fitment, advice, research and testing are variable’s we should take into account.

The stats don’t lie on how important putting is (we often forget about this). Depending on ability a reasonable player would be “happy” with 2 putts a hole, averaging 36 putts a round. No matter what your handicap, that is a big chunk of your score. Some days you can do better, that’s good golf and hopefully improved scoring.

Personally we love the traditionalist / classic look of the Forza . A heel shafted half-mallet putter with a slick PVD finish. Milled out of a solid billet of 11L17 carbon steel, weighing in at 375 grams. Yes, Heavy and steady as Piretti say and one certainly feels it.

Most enjoyable I found on some “slickish” greens running at 11 on the Stimpmeter. Feedback is phenomenal and the weight definitely does smooth out the putting stroke. Using my major muscles more and cutting out those twitchy movements.

The attention to detail with the Forza is really up there with the best. Using a milling process to bend the neck, on this one piece putter head (no welding whatsoever) improves consistency in the offset and loft.

Loft being another dimension, Piretti opting to only use 2.5⁰ of loft (where other brands can go as high as 4⁰ of loft). The Piretti school of thought is that the lower loft allows for better speed and distance control on modern greens. Too much loft on a putter may cause skipping after impact, effecting accuracy and distance. Sounds like a good argument and after a little getting used too you can certainly feel it.

The Forza has a 5:30 toe hang. It is offered in a P.V.D (maintenance free) Midnight Black finish. Retail is rand / dollar based, but generally in the region of R3500. Similar to the other high end brands.

If you were really looking to treat yourself this New Year I would suggest giving Kevin Wiblin a shout first, he heads up Piretti in South Africa. Kevin knows his stuff and is a great brand custodian where service levels are very befitting that of a premium product.

The last great selling feature is that you are able to get fitted on a national basis where Piretti fit you with all the correct specs from - grip options , putter length and lie angle. Very important a great to have this help from the professionals.
